We love making books with Kindergartners!  We taught together in Phoenix, AZ, for over 20 years and created KinderLit to share our student books with other teachers.

After graduating from Washington State University in 1978, I began my career teaching first grade.  My years of experience have all been in primary grades, teaching Preschool, Kindergarten and First. I also had the opportunity to spend a year teaching English students in Japan.  For the last 30 years I have been teaching Kindergarten in both half-day and full-day programs in Phoenix, AZ.

Outside the classroom I enjoy spending time with my husband, two sons, and a daughter-in-law and am anxiously awaiting the birth of my first grandchild, a girl!

Originally from New Jersey, I am a graduate of the University of Delaware.  I taught Kindergarten for 35 years in various settings, both public and private.  I have worked in regular classrooms as well as with Special Education kindergarten students as an itinerant teacher.  In 2009 I retired and moved to Georgia to spend time with my two sons, a daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren.  Best job in the world - Grandma!

I also enjoy quilting, working with stained glass, and playing golf.

In 1989, we found ourselves both teaching Kindergarten at the same school in adjoining rooms.  Compatible with our teaching styles we immediately began to team-teach.  We have used a variety of methods for teaching basic skills, including work sheets, workbooks, letter of the week, and literature studies.

We noticed one year that the children were very excited and acquired their skills more readily when they each created their own versions of a piece of literature. Parents also saw the excitement and interest their children showed in their own work and asked us if and when we would be making another book!

This enthusiasm and increased mastery of skills led us to adopt the philosophy that skills can be taught through literature in a more meaningful way than through workbooks.  From this philosophy, we developed KinderLit!
